Forget about the Madden NFL curse, this entire NBA season has been plagued by some disgruntled obia (is it Greg Oden?) causing injuries across the board.
The latest casualties of the condensed lockout season are the Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose and New York Knicks rookie Iman Shumpert. Both players suffered season-ending ACL tears on the first day of the NBA playoffs on Saturday.
Is this all dumb luck, or is someone to blame for the rash of injuries in the NBA this season?

Rose will likely miss playing in the Olympics for the United States as well. Coincidentally, both players are Adidas pitchmen, along with Magic center Dwight Howard, who is also out of the playoffs after having back surgery. The ACL, or the anterior cruciate ligament, is one of the ligaments in the knee joint that connects the upper leg bone to the lower leg bone, to keep the knee stable, according to WebMD.
A torn ACL most often occurs during sports with sudden stops or changes in direction, according to Mayo Clinic, like basketball, soccer and tennis. The ACL is also more likely to tear if the knee is bent backward, sidewise or twisted, which can often happen in contact sports, according to the NIH.
