According to data monitoring company, Musicmetric, with a whopping 96,868,398 files shared, we the people of the United States placed first in the global rankings for “Most Illegal Downloads,” handily beating runner-up United Kingdom by over two times.

And of those 96s-some-odd million downloads, Canada’s very own, Drake was the most popularly bootlegged artist, which is a little strange because he wasn’t even first in his own country. Rapper Drake is the most shared artist in the US, while back in the Young Money MC’s native Canada, Kanye West proves most popular. The UK comes in second, followed by Italy, Canada and Brazil.


According to Trace Tv , the spectacular shut down of Megaupload  by the United States Department of Justice in January this year hasn’t dissuaded the most hardcore of digital pirates. The fact of the matter is that illegal downloading is alive and well, much to the dismay of record industry professionals. Megaupload ,rumored to formerly ran by superproducer Swiss Beats,  a claim he denies has been under fire for providing illegal music to the masses .


Another victim of musical piracy, demonstrating that he truly is Mr. Worldwide, is Miami rapper Pitbull, the number one illegally downloaded artist in Hungary…  This upsets hardworking artistist who make a living off their art but the government is definently cracking down on illegal downloading sentencing fans up to 72 years in prison -- or a year for every song you download and illegally own .
