Famous Poet Maya Angelo passes away

Acclaimed author Maya Angelou passed away due to complications from a illness today and I must say this is shocking because we knew she was sick and also knew that it was only a matter of time before this news would spread around the world of the famed poet passing away and being true .

 Susan Taylor , an American editor, writer, and journalist reflected on the memory of Ms. Angelo as a fellow writer She served as editor-in-chief of Essence from 1981 through 2000.In 1994, American Libraries referred to Taylor as "the most influential black woman in journalism today" ,Wilkepedia.

Susan Taylor told NewsOne that "Maya stretched what god gave her " .Maya Angelo was born Marguerite Ann Johnson on April 4th, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. She rose from a turbulent and troubled background to become one of the most powerful and influential voices in black literature, feminism and thought.

She even worked as a madam very briefly (‘I was hardly ever there.

I just sat and counted the money’) and tried to enlist in the Army – but didn’t get in.

Maya Angelou was multilingual (she speaks French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and Fanti), and a prolific writer – she’s written over thirty bestselling works of fiction, non-fiction and verse.

The most famous of them is the acclaimed first volume, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Virago, 1972).Maya Angelo's last tweet ( yes , she tweeted and was very familiar with social media )- "listen to your self in that quietude and u will hear the voice of god"
